Online Music Lessons

I am a young and enthusiastic teacher who has only recently come out of the education system myself. Having both experience as a classroom teacher and professional musician, I am able to tailor any tutoring to suit the needs of the individual which develop both practical and theoretical music skills. After completing my undergrad in Music, I then trained as a choral conductor before completing my teacher training where I focused on my group teaching skills. As well as being a conductor, I am an organist, singer and cellist with a wealth of experience in various musical styles including classical, experimental, jazz, musical theatre and pop music. Alongside this I have a keen interest in politics, philosophy and sociology which were incorporated heavily into my further education and influence my own teaching, encouraging debate around topics rather than just prescriptive skills to pass an exam. I have a strong passion for sharing a love of my subject which strongly influences my teaching and drives me to do the best by anyone I tutor. I am able to tutor any age, working from basics all the way to undergraduate level.

I am currently undertaking a PhD at the Royal College of Music in London.

Tutoring Experience

I have worked as a teacher for nearly ten years now in some capacity, originally beginning as a peripatetic music teacher. This then grew into teaching singing for various musical theatre schools and then volunteered in multiple schools during a gap year after my A Levels. All through my university career I was also working as a teacher in some capacity, whether this be one-on-one or group teaching. I currently have a 100% success rate with ABRSM theory and practical exams and have also given additional tutoring to children sitting GCSE and A Level music to great benefit. Having completed my teacher training, I recently took up a post at an independent school as a music teacher where I have taught ages 4-18 and have also coached Oxbridge candidates.

Tutoring Approach

My teaching is founded in developing a love of music and offering musical skills for life. I am always happy to tailor tutoring to the needs of the tutee and even explore areas of study they have a stronger interest in. Whilst preparing tutees for exams, I also incorporate a broader, discussion-based approach where facts and concepts are contextualised into practical music which cements learning to a much greater extent. Having access to software like Sibelius, I am able to tailor sessions in a more prescriptive way to the individual and can present much more cohesive sessions which can break down concepts into more digestible chunks.
