Home Tuition for Maths and Physics in Oxford

Hi! I'm Tom, a first year doctoral student at the University of Oxford! My project is focusing on the development of the first scalable quantum computer, by trapping ions between small mirrors and linking them using optical fibres.

Previously, I studied Physics at Imperial College London, where I developed a laser used in a system to trap and cool molecular gases to less than a thousandth of a degree. I also spent a summer in a research lab characterising a single photon source used as a quantum information system.

In my spare time, I play electric guitar and sing in a rock band as well as playing water polo and cricket.

Tutoring Experience

I am currently tutoring a student preparing for them for an Eton King's Scholarship Exam. I was also hired by Imperial College London to assist first year physics students in their Python coding classes. I also spent two years as a volunteer coaching at my local cricket club once a week.

Tutoring Approach

My preferred teaching approach is to guide students through difficult and complex problems by asking them leading questions to encourage them to find the solution. This enables students to begin thinking in the systematic way required to succeed in maths and physics exams.
