Home Tuition for Geography in Clapham

I am currently a Geography teacher at James Allen's Girls School in Dulwich teaching year groups 7 - 13. I graduated from Exeter University in 2015 with a degree in BA geography and straight after I began the Teach First programme which enabled me to gain my QTS & PGCE from UCL. I have taught in a variety of schools (state and private) which has meant that I have developed a good understanding of the different ways in which students learn (including SEND) and the importance of adapting learning to the needs of each individual.

Tutoring Experience

I have privately tutored a number of GCSE (Edexcel A/B & AQA) & A level (Edexcel & AQA) students outside of school and consequently become familiar with a wide range of specifications. During my time teaching in London, I have helped to significantly improve GCSE results through improving the curriculum to ensure that it caters to a wide range of student needs (from HPA to SEN) and by doing Pearson examiner marking in 2018, 2019 & 2022. I have previously held the position of Curriculum Director of Humanities which has meant that I have developed a good understanding of the History, RE, Soiology and Citizenship specifications therefore I am able to make links between the different subjects which helps to enable students to connect and build on ideas from one subject to another.

Tutoring Approach

Creative and engaging lessons are crucial, especially when working with students on a one to one basis. In order to do this, I believe it is important to encourage students to think in depth and critically about a variety of geographical concepts by encouraging them to think about the viewpoints of different stakeholders/players and to assess/weigh up the most significant factors by thinking spatially and temporally. It is also key to expose students to current events so that students are able to make links between these and what they are learning in the Geography curriculum.
