Hi my name is Tanya, I am 23 years old. I am a Finance Graduate at an Insurance Company in Central London and this is my first corporate role after graduation. As per my role, I navigate through the world of numbers with precision and efficiency and feel that this aids my ability to explain complex concepts easily with being able to provide thorough understanding. My love for teaching extends beyond the confines of my corporate job and as dedicated to share my knowledge into digestible bits to empower my students to excel in these subjects, whether it’s solving equations or mastering grammar rules and connotations.
I have worked as a tutor in my final year of university teaching English Language and Maths to Year 9 and Year 10 students online.
I have also tutored locally around my hometown area before I attended university.
My first step would be to understand the students’ needs. This would help the lessons be effective as I will understand the unique needs, learning styles, and abilities of each student. I will also note down any challenges they face in revision methods and topics and plan lessons where we can mitigate and overcome these.
For this communication would need to be clear. I am a big advocate for presenting information in a clear and concise manner and using appropriate language to not confuse the student. A lot of concepts are explained using complex jargon and that can confuse and frustrate a student.
Interactive activities and discussions are important to open the topics up for further questions by the student. This helps to deepen understanding and ground the learning.
I will consistently plan assessments to be able to give back feedback and track their progress both for me and for them. This will vary upon the student and topics at hand. This will help to provide opportunities for evaluation and next steps.
I am a big advocate for encouragement and support, I would want the student to always ask questions even if they think it may be ‘silly’. No question is a ‘silly’ question and every questions brings you closer to the answer.
