Home Tuition for Maths and English in Southall

With over 5 years of experience in teaching, I have gained strong communication skills and have been able to transfer this into tutoring to provide a more targeted approach.

I am an enthusiastic, motivated and experienced teacher and work to help students see the enjoyable side to maths and maximise their chances of achieving top grades.

Tutoring Experience

For over 5 years, I have been volunteering at an educational charity where I teach on a weekly basis. I have worked with people over a wide age range including children as young as 3 and have taught both one-to-one and in classes with over 20 students. As part of this charity, I have also trained students and taken part in an international speech and music competition. This has helped me develop excellent teamwork and communication skills which I have been able to apply during my volunteering, in supporting students both inside and outside the classroom and helping them deal with issues including bullying and stress. Recently, I have also started helping out at a local primary school where I work with KS2 students with mainly English and Maths. I have found my experience of teaching and using my skills and knowledge in helping others to be very rewarding and hope to use this platform to help students achieve well in Maths.

Tutoring Approach

Every student has a different way in which they best learn and understand things. As a teacher, I make sure to tailor my resources and teaching style to suit the specific needs of students. Initially, I think it's key to establish which level a student is at, for example, by carrying out a baseline test, which helps to highlight a student’s strengths and weaknesses, and helps me to identify which areas need to be targeted. Using this, I am able to set out learning goals for lessons and provide a systematic approach to my teaching. I try to give lots of examples and practise questions so students can thoroughly learn and apply what is being taught. I also try to keep track of how a student is doing each lesson in order to see what progress is being made, so I can adjust my approach accordingly. Whilst I enjoy teaching new topics, I think it is crucial to help students learn the reasoning behind problems so they are able to better understand and apply their knowledge, especially in unfamiliar settings. Overall, I try to make sure that I cater my teaching style to each student and help them achieve their fullest potential.
