I am an experienced tutor with many years' teaching experience. I currently hold a 3-year research associateship in Cambridge. I have two degrees in Theology and Religious Studies/English Literature and hold Undergraduate and Master's degrees from Cambridge University. For my degrees, I studied a range of papers including history (Patristics, Medieval, Reformation, Early Modern & Modern, as well as Jewish history and contemporary issues), psychology, mysticism & spirituality in the Abrahamic faiths, ethics, Greek and sociology. For one of my Master’s dissertations, I analysed implicit and explicit prejudice against Catholics & Jews in 19th Century English Literature. I've also studied with the Open University and achieved a distinction - subjects covered included English Literature, History (Victorian & French/Irish Early Modern History), Art History (Italian and British) and Philosophy. Additionally, I am a published author of articles, conference papers and book reviews for UK & international journals. Currently, I am collaborating on an academic study course and am working on a book project and an architectural article based on a Greek case study. I am also an experienced proof-reader and copy editor, specialising in academic essays, papers, dissertations & theses written by those for whom English is a second language. Other work includes teaching sound study skills (time management; critical reading; note taking; essay/dissertation planning etc) at all levels and acting as a UCAS tutor.
I have tutored all age ranges from primary aged children to Master's level students to adults in English language and literature. A number of students have come to me for help prior to re-sitting exams and each has attained excellent results (for example, one student went from a D to A* (99%) in A Level Buddhism). Many of my students have come from backgrounds whereby English was not spoken in the home and occasionally I had students for whom English was a second language. For the latter students, I tailored lessons to most closely meet their needs with excellent rates of success. I have also taught French (basic/intermediate) to adult learners. I am also an experienced and highly competent proofreader of academic essays, dissertations and theses.
My approach to tutoring is aimed at the individual and helping him/her to achieve the very best of which he/she is capable . I believe in instilling confidence in students and in taking the time to work through concepts in order to aid understanding. I am passionate about education as a means of helping individuals flourish, am an excellent and patient listener and approach teaching in a methodical and thoroughgoing way.
