I'm an experienced tutor and have been teaching for 15 years after time spent working in industry and post-doctoral research.I've tutored in all three sciences for the Open University, where I studied for my second Bachelor's degree and also my doctorate in Biophysics.
My passion for science thus spans all of the disciplines and I have been both head of Chemistry and Head of Physics during my teaching career. In addition, I am a senior examiner for GCE and GCSE Physics, roles that give me valuable insights into the examination skills needed to successfully translate knowledge into grades. I have also written questions for one of the exam boards.
Current availability is now limited (Nov 2017) but may free up after Christmas.
15 years in State and Private sector
6 years with the Open University
14 years examining GCE and GCSE
Many students I work with on an individual basis only need to be given the tools and skills to learn how to learn and from there they are becoming more independent and confident in their ability. Others require more support over a longer period. n the words of a former colleague: "I think it is essential to realise that the top grades are only meaningful if they are the consequence of understanding rather than memory. The aim is to enlighten the young minds, and this enlightenment brings academic success"
