I am a third-year student on the Pure Mathematics integrated master’s course at the University of St Andrews.
I have been supporting students with maths since I was in school, where I took part in regular maths sessions to help younger students with their classwork. This early experience gave me a strong foundation in explaining ideas clearly and encouraging students who were struggling. More recently, I’ve tutored young secondary students in basic arithmetic, focusing on building their confidence and helping them develop a solid understanding of key concepts.
In my university studies, collaboration plays a big role - we often work through challenging problems in groups and explain our thinking to one another. This has strengthened my ability to communicate clearly, approach problems from different angles, and support others in their learning. These experiences have helped me develop a calm, thoughtful, and flexible approach to tutoring, which I aim to bring to every session.
My goal is to break down complex ideas into clear, manageable steps and help students grow through patience, encouragement, and steady support. I aim to create a calm, friendly environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and aren’t afraid to make mistakes, because that is where real learning happens. You do not need to love maths to succeed; with the right guidance and a bit of persistence, everyone can make real progress. I am committed to helping each student build a strong foundation and reach their full potential, no matter their starting point.
