I am an experienced Mandarin & Zhuang Chinese teacher & tutor. After working as a primary school teacher in rural China for several years I moved to the UK, bringing my passion for teaching Chinese to people of all ages with me. Since then I’ve been teaching Mandarin in London to children & adults, at nurseries, schools, and the workplace.

I love teaching Mandarin, and am fortunate to be one of the only teachers in the UK fluent in Zhuang Chinese. I also offer introductory sessions to Chinese calligraphy, and include traditional Chinese culture in my lessons.

Tutoring Experience

I graduated with both a degree in Mandarin Language & Literature and a Chinese Teaching Certificate, and since then spent several years teaching literature in a primary school in rural China. The students there spoke Zhuang Chinese as their first language, so for many of them Mandarin was like a second language, especially at such a young age.

I then moved to London in the UK, and since then have been teaching ever more diverse students. This has included one on one tutoring of children, group lessons in nurseries and primary schools, and teaching adults in the workplace. Everyday brings a new challenge, and I love watching my students Chinese skills improve.

Tutoring Approach

I primarily teach Mandarin & Zhuang Chinese. Mandarin Chinese (普通话) is the most popular form of Chinese, and is the most common native language in the world. Zhuang Chinese (壮语) is the first language of many people in Guangxi, which is the province in southern China where I grew up.

I take a highly personalised approach to all of my teaching and tutoring, coming up with bespoke lesson plans and suggesting resources that best help my students achieve their learning goals. This is much more effective that taking a one size fits all approach, as by focusing on what students want to get out of the lessons, we end up more motivated and learning more, faster. This can include introductory Chinese calligraphy lessons and also weaving Chinese culture into my lesson plans.
