Online Maths and Biology Lessons

I am currently working towards gaining a PhD at the University of Stirling. I am studying solitary and social bee cognition.

I graduated with a Zoology integrated masters from the University of Sheffield, an experience I enjoyed and dedicated myself to wholeheartedly.

In my A-levels I received A* grade in Maths and Biology and an A in Chemistry. I have retained strong expertise in these subjects, and during my degree found fulfilment in aiding my fellow students.

I enjoy passing my experience and knowledge to others, and have a lot of experience communicating remotely from doing some of my degree during the COVID lockdown. Many aspects of my degree involved presenting information, both from my own studies and from papers read, and answering questions, skills that I’m sure would help me as a tutor. Additionally, I volunteered in a zoo for some time, which often involved me presenting information and knowledge about animals to younger people and sharing specific knowledge about the different animals unique traits.

Tutoring Experience

I have previous experience as a private tutor for A-level maths.

Tutoring Approach

I have found that everyone learns differently, and that it takes time, effort and patience to discover exactly how someone learns best. That is part of the tutors role.
Finding simple ways to visualise subject matter can help. However I recognise that one method doesn’t work for everyone. As such I’d dedicate myself to helping find the correct method for each student to grasp the subject they are learning.
For example, biology is often just a matter of learning how all the processes are interrelated, and I find that teachers can often makes it sound more complicated than it is. As such I try and find simpler and more understandable ways to present information.
Similarly, maths is often much simpler than it looks. By helping students identify how to break down complicated questions down into shorter questions, can allow what is initially quite a daunting process to become something more manageable.
