Serena

Hola! I’m Serena. I am currently working as a Modern Foreign Languages teacher at secondary level. I completed my degree in Spanish at Royal Holloway, University of London. My course was four years with a year abroad in Madrid. The aim of the year abroad was to improve and perfect my Spanish. It was my time in Madrid where I first experienced teaching - through my job as an English as a Foreign Language Teacher. Living abroad was an amazing experience, I was given the opportunity to see what it's like to live like a Madrileña! I have always believed that learning different languages opens up the entire world to people. The world is your oyster if you have more than one language in your bank. It is so important to understand the importance of learning different languages, that is why , by teaching, I am extremely focused on encouraging others to adopt this same attitude.

Tutoring Experience

I have a CELTA qualification whereby I can teach English as a Foreign Language and did this for a year during my year abroad in Spain. Following my degree, I began training as a teacher for Modern Foreign Languages and received my QTS at the end of the 20-21 academic year and have been teaching ever since. Since my final year of University, I have tutored multiple students ranging ages of 4 to 25 years.

Tutoring Approach

In every first session, a mini test is given for me to see your level of Spanish so I can address any gaps in your learning. In the following sessions, I will mainly focus on improving your grammatical knowledge and show you how to apply it in writings and speakings. Every lesson will also have an element of vocabulary learning too.
