I am a tutor with seven years teaching experience in subjects across the arts and humanities. I hold and PhD in Classics and Art History from Durham University and am currently a Teaching Fellow in the School of Art History at Edinburgh College of Art.

Tutoring Experience

I have seven years experience as a private tutor in English, History and Classics at GCSE, Level and Advanced Higher level where students have consistently seen improvements in coursework and exam results. I have a breadth of teaching experience, from further and higher education to adult learning. Most recently, I have been lecturing in History of Art at Edinburgh College of Art, University of Edinburgh. Before moving to Edinburgh, I taught Classics and Ancient History to college age students (16-19). Before that, I taught History, Classics and Art History at Durham University whilst completing my doctorate. I have won teaching excellence awards (5*) from Durham twic and at the University of Edinburgh, as voted by the students. I also have extensive experience in tuition/advice for undergraduate essays, coursework and dissertations in humanities and related subjects.

Tutoring Approach

I believe the best learning is done in a calm, supportive environment with an enthusiastic, encouraging and interested tutor. This is what I hope to cultivate for my students. As well as helping my students with the subject specific details required for their discipline, one of my main focuses is always to help students build confidence in their abilities which always leads to improvement and success!
