Maths and English Tuition in Trowbridge

I am a calm, passionate and dedicated teacher and parent to 3 children, all now at Secondary school or in further education. I regularly assist my children with their homework which means that although I am a Primary school teacher, I keep abreast of the KS3 and KS4 curriculum. I also know how demanding the work/life balance and pressures surrounding homework can be and am keen to help your child in achieving this.
I am currently teaching in a junior school in a setting where almost a third of the children have SEND, which has been a challenge that I have enjoyed coming to terms with and working with colleagues to provide the best possible care for my students. I am also subject lead for Maths, so regularly lead other staff and provide constructive criticism.
I am a keen musician - I play guitar and sing in 2 bands. I also enjoy meeting up with friends, listening to music, reading, eating out and of course, teaching.

Tutoring Experience

I qualified as a teacher in 1999 from the renowned Froebel Institute, Roehampton and secured a job in the same year, whilst first starting tutoring in 2001. This was initially as a guitar tutor and then from 2007 onwards, I have provided tutoring in KS2 Maths and English. From my time teaching in the private sector, between 2011 and 2018, I also have experience of 11+. As a Year 6 teacher, I have a vast experience of marking past SATS papers, know the syllabus inside out and have had considerable success at this level.

Tutoring Approach

As I have taught over the years, I have learnt more and more that every child is unique and needs a different approach. Some tutoring sessions work well with educational games being a high priority, whereas other children prefer a more formal approach; I can tailor the session to the needs of your child.
Every child I have tutored over the years has improved both academically in school and in their sessions with me. Nowadays, living through a pandemic, one of the areas in which children have suffered the most is their confidence. Lack of confidence in a subject is one of the biggest stumbling blocks for a child and in my sessions, I will give your child that confidence to give things a go. I would be able to say honestly, that many of my tutee's parents have remarked that their child's teachers have noticed improved confidence in their students. I am also happy to work in tandem with you and your child's school in offering help with any areas they may be struggling with.
As you can see, I offer the flexibility of either coming to your house, or for you to bring your child here, if you want a quieter work space for them.
