I qualified with a PGCE from the University of Warwick and a Psychology Degree from Thames Valley University. I am fully DBS enhanced cleared.

Tutoring Experience

I am a Primary School Teacher with over 20 years experience in teaching. I tutor on a one to one basis - online and face to face.
I teach maths, English, phonics, Year 2 and 6 SATs exam preparation and 11+ exam preparation.

If you are considering, or wishing that your child take the 11+ exam, they will need to be prepared with the relevant skills and knowledge.

My sessions get fully booked very quickly with most already full, or nearly full. However, I do have a couple of slots here and there as I have added in extra sessions. So, in order to guarantee a place, please get in touch as soon as possible. I have an outstanding pass rate for the 11 Plus entrance exams.

Throughout the year, I prepare your child for the exam, covering all of the necessary areas of learning (some of which they may have not covered in school). I make the sessions fun and interactive, ensuring that whatever the final outcome, your child will have received a positive learning experience, and will be well equipped to begin their Secondary School experience with confidence.

Maths and English BOOSTER LESSONS:
If you are concerned that the pace of the new curriculum is causing your child to worry and lose confidence, you may consider joining one of my booster lessons. I run sessions for children in Nursery to Year 9.

All homework is marked, with thorough feedback given to the children and parents, where necessary.

Tutoring Approach

I demonstrate a deep knowledge and understanding of the subjects I teach. I use highly effective questioning and demonstrate understanding of the ways pupils think about subject content. I identify pupils’ common misconceptions and act to ensure they are corrected.
I plan lessons very effectively, making maximum use of lesson time and coordinating lesson resources well.
I provide adequate time for practice to embed the pupils’ knowledge, understanding and skills securely.
I always check pupils’ understanding systematically and effectively in lessons, offering clearly directed and timely support.
I provide pupils with incisive feedback, about what pupils can do to improve their knowledge, understanding and skills.

I am determined that all my pupils achieve well. I encourage pupils to try hard, recognise their efforts and ensure that pupils take pride in all aspects of their work. I have consistently high expectations of all pupils’ attitudes to learning.

Parents are provided with clear and timely information on how well their child is progressing and how well their child is doing in relation to their learning.
