Maths Tuition in Bristol

I am a fully qualified Secondary Mathematics Teacher, with a degree in maths and an enthusiastic tutor with over 22 years of teaching experience. Currently I am teaching in a school in North Bristol, teaching a range of students of various abilities from Year 7 to Year 13. I believe that by providing support and guidance, together with the understanding of student’s strengths and weaknesses, success and results can be achieved.

Tutoring Experience

I have over 22 years of successful mathematics teaching in Nottingham; in Singapore (Tanglin Trust School, the Premier British School) and since returning to the UK in 2003, I have been teaching mathematics at a school in North Bristol. I have taught both higher and foundation GCSE classes where many students have exceeded their target grade using Edexcel and AQA examination boards. I have also taught AQA GCSE Statistics course to pupils taking the Higher Tier Mathematics GCSE. With regards to A level, I am experienced at teaching the pure, statistics and mechanics strands and have taught both OCR and now teaching using the Edexcel specification. Previously, I have also taught IB Standard level Mathematics and Studies. My husband and I have two children, 6 and 8 years old. For this reason I am currently teaching part-time and tutoring to fit around family life and my day off. I have successfully tutored both GCSE and A level students and now have spaces for one or two more.

Tutoring Approach

I believe that maths is all about confidence to ‘give it a go’; students can thrive in an environment where they are confident to explore their misconceptions and tutoring provides just that. Trying different approaches and encouraging students to think about what they know as opposed to what they don’t is the first steps in success. For maths, it’s important to review previously learnt concepts, mixing different topics and skills together while unpinning what students are learning in school.
