I recently retired from teaching in a sixth form college. I have various interests, including hiking, DIY, nature photography, music and cooking.

Tutoring Experience

I have 20 years experience of teaching a number of subjects at GCSE and A levels. My main subjects have been Geography and Religious Studies. I had various management roles prior to retirement, including Assistant Director of Learning and Head of Department for Humanities. The subjects I have taught always had very successful outcomes - for example we enjoyed 100% achievement rate in Geography throughout my teaching career, and consistently achieved high ALPS (value-added scores) for both A level Geography and A level Religious Studies.

Tutoring Approach

I adopt an eclectic approach to teaching and learning. Q and A, intensive coaching and appropriate use of e-learning, are just a few of the methods I use. My focus is always on enabling those I tutor to aspire to and attain the very highest standards, have enquiring minds, communicate effectively and to engage with contemporary issues, in order to deepen and apply their understanding of theories and ideas. I aim to bring the subject alive, so that those I tutor can fully engage with it. I also ensure learners become competent in exam techniques, to enable them to be successful in external exams.
