Hi! I'm Sara, an extremely experienced tutor and a recent graduate of Cambridge University, with a degree in English Literature. I tutor students as young as 7 years old right the way up to those completing University applications. As well as my academic work, I spent my undergraduate degree performing in 28 plays and short films, and directing 2 shows of my own. I have travelled the world facilitating theatre and literature workshops, touring across Europe and also in Shanghai.
I have experience tutoring 7+ (maths, english, handwriting), 11+ (english, maths, verbal and non-verbal reasoning), GCSE English and A-Level/Pre-U English. I've also worked with students towards their desired grades for university admissions, supporting with personal statements, entrance tests and mock interviews. I am also currently a TA for art classes at Blackheath Conservatoire, supporting younger students, and a freelance TA across schools in London.
In August 2020 I taught English Literature at West London Free School, catching up students disproportionately affected by COVID-19. I have worked with ASDAN in Shanghai, teaching theatre and journalism (August 2019). I have also taught literature and drama during a European Tour of 'Othello' (December 2018), providing active workshops to each school in which we performed.
My approach to tutoring is led with kindness and compassion, creating a fun learning environment that students feel safe to make mistakes in, whilst also ensuring lessons are rigorous and challenging. For 7+ and 11+ students I work to create confidence and self-belief to motivate hard work, and have supported students to meet offers for schools like Francis Holland and South Hampstead etc.
For older students, another thing of great importance to me is working to inspire genuine excitement and interest in examined texts. This, of course, works hand in hand with academic achievement - a sincere interest shines through in written work, and can elevate an A to an A*, for example.
I also work closely with each student to tailor our sessions to suit their needs best; that is, I ensure that the work we do is productive and engaging for each individual.
