Hi,
I'm a first-year university student studying Computer Science. I have a great deal of interests, some of which include playing the guitar, watching films and documentaries, cooking, reading, etc. When it comes to academics I am heavily intrigued by all the STEM subjects. I studied Biology, Psychology and Chemistry for majority of my life, and around year 10 I really started to research more about it, and tried to learn as much as i possibly could.
I would say I'm a dedicated and hard-working individual, and am very keen on learning new things and accepting challenges. I try to put 100% of my efforts into everything that I do, and it won't be any different with this opportunity.

Tutoring Experience

In the past 5 years, I would say that I have gained quite a lot of teaching and tutoring experience. At one of my high schools, which was an IB school, I, along with a friend of mine, initiated a tutoring programme for anyone between the ages of 10-15. The programme included subjects like Mathematics and English, but also focused on all the sciences, along with the social sciences, such as Psychology and Economics. My specialty subjects include Biology, Psychology, English, and Mathematics. However, I can teach Biology and Psychology at higher levels than the other two, as I have a greater deal of knowledge and experience with the two subjects.
Other than this, I have also been a student ambassador at my school, and at my previous institution, Britus International, I was also heavily involved in tutoring. The school had recently introduced Psychology as a new subject, and as I had studied it 2 years prior, I was in charge of teaching the year 11 students once a week. The teacher would assist me, however, I would lead all the classes and create the lesson plans.

Tutoring Approach

My approach to teaching focuses on engaging all students with the material at hand, and hopefully exciting them about the subject. I try to teach not only course material, but also to encourage students to develop thought patterns to become critical thinkers. I prefer to teach students on a one-on-one basis, as sometimes being in a group setting can make certain individuals uncomfortable or feel as though other students are better than them. Personally, I am a visual learner and I find that younger students are the same way, however, every student is different, and hence why I like to spend the first few sessions making notes to myself about the methods with which the student is learning the best.
I am very focused on making my students understand concepts, rather than simply remembering words and phrases, as that is what helps them in the long run. I think that the most useful technique I use to develop this further is to ask students to justify their answers. This helps students to understand the foundations of their understanding of the subject.
