Hello, my name is Samuel and I am a 23 year old MSci theoretical physics graduate, with an emphasis on quantum theory, at the University of Bristol. I love the subject and I am set to study for a PhD starting next year. I am happy to be spending some time back home in Lancaster after an enjoyable 4 years.
I have only recently attained MSci in theoretical physics; although new to tutoring I will to put my fresh knowledge from the academic setting and exam preparation to good use.
The approach is to develop a deeper understanding of the content with less emphasis on factual learning, and replacing it with a focus on practical ability to rigorously reproduce derivations and solve problems. The aim is for the student to be able to quickly take on unseen problems- a skill required for a strong exam performance, with the added benefit of establishing the mathematical framework required for further study beyond their current course.
The sessions will involve guided walk-throughs of derivations followed by the discussion and guided solution of problems. The student will be encouraged to have attempted problems between sessions to bring for discussion and marking.
Simultaneously, there is no such thing as a bad question in the context of mathematics, so the student is encouraged to bring any questions that may have emerged during their learning.
