I am semi retired having worked in Schools for a period of 23 years. I live in a beautiful area of the country looking out to the sea. I enjoy tutoring Maths and English and I also have a passion for the theatre and many crafts. I also like Gardening and travelling and believe in keeping busy.

Tutoring Experience

I taught in the Secondary/Middle School arena for over 23 years. My most recent post was as head of Maths at a Middle School. I have been tutoring for as long as I have been teaching but since 2017 tutoring has become a more substantial part of my life. I have tutored English at primary level and Maths from age 4 to Adult. I have been an examiner, marking Maths SATs papers and have also tutored pupils entering private school. I have taught many pupils on the SEN registers and have experience with children and Adults with dyslexia and dyscalculia.

Tutoring Approach

I will start with a meeting, either online or face to face with parents and child. I use this time to assess what is required and to see if we are suited. I like to use whatever strategy is required for the pupil in question. I find that a lot of pupils learn by using concrete objects so have a range of resources to help. I teach several of my pupils using Zoom which i have found to be very effective. However, I am able to offer face to face lessons for those who prefer it. I like to enthuse my students and find that once they understand the principals of the topic they enjoy learning more. I regularly set homework in order to assess my students.
