Private Maths Tuition in New Malden

I am currently studying towards becoming a Chartered Accountant while working at a Big 4 Company. Previously, I finished my studies towards a Masters degree in Mathematics at King’s College London. Having graduated with a first-class honours degree in maths at undergraduate level I am deeply familiar with the various aspects of this subject and the challenges encountered when tackling complex problems and steps needed to simplify those. Being a maths enthusiast, I greatly enjoy challenging my academic limits by making the experience of learning maths more enjoyable and I aim to do the same for students.
My hours are flexible in the evening and weekends.

Tutoring Experience

I have always had a passion for tutoring, however I first started practicing during my GCSEs which then continued onto University. Having tutored my fellow peers, younger siblings and family friends from such a young age really motivated me to start helping those who want to achieve their highest potential.

I have had the pleasure of teaching students from underrepresented groups in Islington as part of a tutoring scheme for my university. For one and a half years, I taught students of all levels ranging from primary to GCSE Maths. Having completed this scheme, it provided me with the experience of teaching both, one-to-one as well as a whole class. The satisfaction of seeing pupils flourish in subjects they were once struggling in, encouraged me to inspire young people to improve their core subject skills and form meaningful relationships with my tutee. Working effectively with young people also provided with skills, including behaviour management and lesson planning and familiarised me with the standard students need to achieve in order to succeed in mathematics.

Tutoring Approach

From my own personal experiences, I believe that the best strategy to tackle more complex problems in maths is to first understand the fundamentals of it before then moving onto more advanced concepts. I encourage my students to ask questions and share their thinking with me in order to fully understand and explain the problem as opposed to just memorising methods. I believe that this makes it significantly easier for them to enjoy this subject and builds up their confidence in it.

Dealing with mixed ability students, I am aware of the fact that everyone learns in different ways. To determine the best strategy that will work best for each student I like to first assess them in all areas of their maths curriculum. This gives me the opportunity to understand their weaknesses and strengths and therefore alter my teaching style according to the student. By holding short discussions about certain topics in the curriculum I like to further identify areas that require improvements.
