I have always been amazingly passionate about both Mathematics and teaching. After graduating with a Mathematics degree, I gained my QTS having completed my PGCE in Secondary Mathematics from the Institute of Education in London.
I have been teaching Secondary Mathematics for 17 years now. The first few years within Inner London in Tower Hamlets and then moving to Croydon in South London. I currently teach in a South London School as a Head of Mathematics which I have been doing for 14 years.
I am DBS checked and clear.
I have been teaching Secondary Mathematics for 17 years and still continue to do so, 14 of those as a Head of Mathematics and Extended/Senior Leader at a very successful South London School. As a result of my experience and being responsible for the the achievement and progress of 100's of students in mathematics each year, I have excellent subject knowledge, know what is expected of students in eternal examinations and understand and can highlight the misconceptions students have with each topic.
I have taught across Key Stage 3, 4 (GCSE) and 5 (A-level) and of all abilities from the most able to those who struggle with numeracy as well as those with additional needs. Every class and every student requires an individual approach and I've learnt to adapt and differentiate my teaching to the needs of my students.
I am also an Edexcel GCSE examiner and mark GCSE scripts for students across the UK. This has given me amazing insight into how GCSE scripts are marked and I have transferred that knowledge back into my schools (training maths staff) and my own teaching. I feel it is important to know the criteria by which students are assessed in order to teach and prepare them effectively.
I have a very flexible to my tutoring based on the needs of my students. It's important to know the strengths and the areas to develop for each individual therefore I give an initial assessment prior to the first lesson and discuss with the tutee and family the goals and how to move forward effectively.
I look at gaps in learning and then create personalised lessons with resources to help both engagement and progress.
The work we do depends on the goal of the tutee and family e.g. preparing for external exams, supporting with homework in school, improving numeracy to increase confidence etc. Every student is different and I like to work with the family to get the best possible experience out of the sessions.
I want my tutees and their families to be 100% happy with my work, therefore I offer the first session free of charge so you can see my approach and decide to move forward or not.
