Private History and History Of Art Tutor in Maldon

I am a 28 Year-old student from Essex, currently researching for a PhD in History at the University of Kent. In my spare time, I also volunteer at my local museum as its research and archives officer. I received a distinction grade in my Master's degree and a 2:1 for my Bachelor's, graduating with honours. I am able to tutor adult learners, A-level students and university-level learners in a manner of subjects.

Tutoring Experience

As a PhD student, I have had opportunities to co-host seminars and attend conferences that are relevant to my chosen study area. Yet while my PhD focuses on the history of 19th century France, I am also very familiar with modern and classical history, having studied them extensively whilst at university.
Furthermore, as an active volunteer at my local museum, I am often relied upon to give workshops to school trips to the museum, and I also engage with members of the general public in regards to historical and archival information that the museum has. As such, I have experience working with learners of all ages but am most comfortable with older learners.

Tutoring Approach

My approach to tutoring depends on the subject being taught. For history, it is important to not only provide information to the student but also provide them with ample opportunity to put this information into action: looking at some key primary sources relating to their topic, for instance, will not only allow the learner to contextualise the information they have learnt but will also give them the opportunity to use their knowledge in an analytical way. Similarly, studying a painting or a sculpture will give the learner the chance to think creatively about what artworks represent in different ways.
