Online History and Geography Lessons

HELLO. I’M REACHING OUT TO YOU AT THIS UNPRECEDENTED TIME IN OUR HISTORY. WE’RE GOING TO MOVE THROUGH IT, AND WE’LL DO IT BY WORKING TOGETHER.

How can I help you in your learning (or that of your child)?
Keep you on track with your learning if you’re in Year 10 - in GCSE subjects History, Geography, Sociology and Religious Studies

Help you with your study skills in general. It can be tricky to structure your time and to stay motivated, especially in a time of great change and uncertainty. I can help you to do this

Work with you to help with anxiety and stress management. Years 10, 11, 12 and 13 can be very challenging at the best of times! Right now, things are very uncertain and we can find that difficult to manage as humans. I can guide you through practical ways that you can help yourself and each other in this, as well as talking through possibilities if you’re in Year 11 and 13

Key Stage 3: practical support with the challenges and opportunities that our current situation has presented. There is so much we can still do - and a lot of new approaches to try!

I am a 37 year old teacher, coach and freelance trainer living and working in Brighton.

I have a First Class BA in History and Sociology, a Masters in History and am an experienced qualified secondary school teacher.

As well as teaching, I have worked with Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) on education projects in Tanzania and have experience of working with a diverse range of people of all ages, within both the public and private sectors.

I additionally hold a counselling skills qualification and a coaching qualification.

I am passionate about my subject and about learning. Outside of my work, I love to travel, run, read and spend time outdoors.

I hold proof of a DBS check and am registered with the online update service.

Tutoring Experience

I am a friendly and passionate teacher with ten years' experience as a qualified secondary school teacher. I have taught History as a primary subject, with Geography, PSHE, Leisure and Tourism and Environmental Science as secondary subjects. I have a very strong track record of GCSE results, with students reaching and often exceeding their target grades, as well as good progress for students at Key Stage 3.

Over a number of years, I have built positive and constructive relationships with my students, helping them to develop in confidence and capabilities. I give constructive verbal and written feedback, enabling students to develop their knowledge and understanding in conjunction with their analytical written work. I have supported a number of students in 1:1 additional support, helping them towards achieving their KS3 or GCSE targets.

I currently work as a freelance trainer for a UK-based international development organisation and previously worked as trainer with Voluntary Service Overseas VSO on in-country training. I have also worked as a trainer within the private sector, including a private construction-based firm. I additionally hold a TEFL qualification.

Tutoring Approach

I believe in building positive relationships and a safe space for students to learn. Understanding that every person is different, I respond to the needs of the individual, catering my approach to suit their learning styles. I work hard to make learning accessible for students and engage them in a way that empowers them to ultimately take control of their own learning.

I believe strongly in a holistic approach to learning, and the importance of the development of a resilient and 'positive mindset' approach in conjunction with the specific subject learning.

My work with previous students has included introducing calming and confidence-building techniques, as well as more subject-related strategies
