Hi there! My name is Roddy, and I graduated top-of-the-class (2020) from Oxford BA English with a Double First, two Gibbs Prizes, a Demyship, and the Charles Oldham Shakespeare Prize.

I then graduated top-of-the-class (2021) from Cambridge MPhil English with Distinction, a St John's Scholarship, and a Baillie-Gifford Scholarship.

I am currently a DPhil student at Oxford reading English with an Oxford-Beghian Academic Scholarship.

I was formerly a King's Scholar at Eton College, where I achieved 12A*s (GCSE) and A** A** A* at Pre-U.

As an aspiring academic, I love sharing my love of English and literature with other students. I am tutoring in English from primary to university level. I also tutor in Eton College entrance exams and scholarships. I also tutor in university admissions, personal statements, and interview practice.

Tutoring Experience

I have approximately 1,000 hours of English tuition experience, from students as young as 5 to university applicants aged 18. Having tutored since I was a GCSE student, and continue to do so online as a DPhil student, I benefit from familiarity with many different levels of the education system. Moreover, it means I can brush up on recent syllabi for English and university entrance exams.

I was sponsored by the Japanese government in 2019 to teach English and debating in high-schools in Tokyo for several weeks. We worked on developing oral, listening, and presentation abilities, and provided tailored daily feedback to the students so as to improve their confidence. This role relied on my ability to quickly develop a rapport with students and to clearly communicate ideas to EFL learners.

I was also the Assistant Director of the Eton College Summer Schools, a summer camp for Japanese students aiming to improve their English. In this role, I teach classes daily for students on a variety of topics designed to stretch their English abilities.
