I am a passionate, experienced (10+ years) and fully qualified (QTS and PGCE) secondary History teacher with a proven track record of success at both GCSE and A Level. I am friendly, approachable and have a good sense of humour, however, don't be fooled, I am very determined, driven and hardworking with a string desire to help all of my students achieve their goals. I pride myself on my punctuality, reliability and possess excellent communication skills. I am a passionate football (and sports) fan, love animals, travelling, reading, films and TV and will tell anyone that listens that I am the best amateur chef currently living in Vansittart Road, Windsor!
An extremely passionate History tutor with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and PGCE with over 10 years experience working with students of all abilities.
I am fully confident in my ability to improve any History student regardless of exam board or topics studied as all exams test students on the same skills just in a different format- written communication (essays), analysing and evaluating sources and interpretations. Having said that, my specialist exam board is Edexcel as I designed and created the new scheme of work at my school as Head of History.
At GCSE, I have specialist knowledge of the following topics- Weimar and Nazi Germany, Medicine, the British Sector on the Western Front, Superpower relations and the Cold War and Anglo-Saxon and Norman England; And at A-Level, I have specialist knowledge of the following topics- In Search of the American Dream, South Africa, the British Empire and the coursework element. However, please do get in contact even if you don't see your topics listed here, as I will be able to support and help you improve regardless.
I have a proven track record of adding value in large mixed ability classes at GCSE adding between 0.5 and 1.25 grades on average to each student and at A Level I have consistently achieved an ALPS grade 3 or above grade including two years at Alps grade 1.
Finally, I am an official examiner for Edexcel at both GCSE and A Level and was ranked as above average performance when marking exams last year.
My approach to tutoring is to:
All tutoring sessions will utilise the accelerated learning cycle to ensure that students make above average expected progress against the learning objectives and areas for improvement. In short, the sessions will be student-led and teacher-facilitated with assessment against each learning objective to measure a students progress. These sessions will be interactive, using a variety of activities and teaching techniques and strategies to make the learning as interesting and enjoyable as possible.
