Online Maths and Entrance Exams Tuition

My name is Rippy, and I have been a tutor for the last 7+ years with 1000s of hours of experience helping students through their 11+, 13+ and GCSEs. I also have a passion for the arts and began my ‘artistic’ career upon graduating LSE and moving to LA to study film/film production and music composition at UCLA. During this time, I mentored with Chino Maurice (music producer and guitarist for Beyonce) working in the studio both as a producer/studio engineer and songwriter. Having finished music school alongside regular high school, I have helped students with music examinations (and film IB) as I have completed both Music theory and practical Grade 8 with distinctions. I have also worked as an editor/director for various production companies and with my personal projects have garnered attention from platforms such as Vice and Nylon. I have continued mentoring/teaching students throughout this process, am currently part of Enjoy Education (a top London tutoring agency) and have been teaching close to full time over the last few years.

Tutoring Experience

I fell in LOVE with teaching when I lived in LA. As I worked in the studio in house, I found many young students (predominantly teens) coming through with record label deals and high intense pressures. I took it upon myself to take these students under my wing and in some cases helped them finish their high school diplomas. These were very intense circumstances and it is here where I learned more about the importance of mental health and hygiene. This is why my approach is entirely holistic as I work on a student by student basis and see exactly what it is that they need tailoring my approach accordingly.

In regards to experience, I have over thousands of hours of teaching experience and having received the highest grades in the country for mathematics in my GCSEs, graduating with a high 2.1 at the London School of Economics. I have mentored students (in some cases) with their film IB and taught film editing and used to teach students in their first years at LSE tutoring with Tavistock tutors (another London based agency) upon graduating.

Currently, I work with Enjoy Education and was awarded a prize back in 2019 putting joy back into education! I have taken students up to A/A* level at GCSE countless times, and mentored students during their A-levels. I have watched my students jump 3-4 levels, and am confident in my abilities as a tutor and academic mentor. I also specialise in the 11+/13+ and watched my students have achieve their goals and attend their dream schools.

In general, I have found that many students who are incredibly creative, talented and imaginative struggle with the subject. Maths IS Art, it is in music, visuals, films... It's in everywhere we look! So, if someone is excited, then they become curious and ultimately, curiosity is the key to learning! I have seen many of my students go from not loving the subject to picking it as one of their A-Levels, in some cases to degree level and this has definitely been one of my biggest achievements.

Tutoring Approach

One of my main methods is to work holistically and energetically with my students. Having graduated LSE, going on to work in the arts, and continuously creating music and selling works, my work with students in mathematics is at the core, creative! Pythagoras who is at the core of the curriculum here in the UK spoke about the magic of numbers and it is here where I love to begin. Maths is the language of the universe. How much more amazing can it get?

Some of the best pioneers in maths, technology and artists worked across fields and it is my goal to incorporate all kinds of ideas within the work I do. Most of the students I have worked with have gone to achieve amazing results in their GCSEs, gotten into their dream schools and passed their exams with flying colours. I specialise in the 13+ and love to work with students from year 7- year 10, helping with the groundwork and consolidation of the core concepts. Many of my students have gone on to study further maths from the sessions we have had together, and it has been one of the most fulfilling experiences to be a part of this process.

I usually work with an interactive whiteboard and Skype so I am able to guide students through their current syllabus/go over any problem areas and have space/provide intensive sessions to do rigorous exam preparation (if necessary) by downloading sessions into PDFs and sending them over by email/Skype for students to add it to their revision notes. I have at many points been asking to come in and help students work through their anxiety, work as a mentor and a guide and have experience working with students with ADHD, Dyspraxia, dyslexia and OCD.
