ONLINE TUTOR WITH OVER 20 YEARS’ CLASSROOM EXPERIENCE.
I am a qualified teacher with over twenty years' experience teaching in the independent and state sectors. My online tutoring is international. I am currently a Head of Religious Studies and Philosophy Department. I am very experienced in the teaching of GCSE and A Level courses and will gladly help students who need to cover any GCSE or A Level Religious Studies or Philosophy syllabus.
Included with my tutoring sessions, pupils also receive:
• Weekly resources and activities
• Homework tasks
• Access to resources tailored to their needs
Having an interest in different learning styles and teaching methods helps me to engage with the pupils I teach. Throughout my career, I have taken pride from seeing pupils I have taught progress whatever their abilities.
I am married with three children. During my spare time I enjoy running, weight training and fitness and photography. I have an enhanced DBS check and my references are also available.
Tutoring Experience
Whilst currently working full time in school as a Religious Studies and Philosophy teacher, I privately tutor pupils in Religious Studies, Philosophy and Critical Thinking to GCSE and A Level.
As I teach in school full time, I do have some daytime availability during the week in the late afternoons and early evenings (as well as at the weekend).
I have a proven track record that includes:
• Improving pupils’ GCSE and A Level grades for Religious Studies at GCSE and A Level as well as Philosophy at A Level
• Enabling students to advance their writing skills, in particular with longer answer essay style questions at GCSE and A Level as well as to think more critically as a philosopher
Tutoring Approach
When tutoring pupils, I provide activities that will quickly boost their confidence and raise self-esteem. I also like to find out what their current understanding of a subject is. During these early stages, misconceptions will often come to light that need addressing as these may be hampering their progress. I feel it is important for children to become fully involved in the process of their learning and I like to agree targets with them that we will then work on.
We all learn in different ways. Some of us are very visual and like to look at books, websites and other texts. Other people prefer to listen to things and talk about their learning. There are also people who learn best from practical activities and games. I am very aware of how my different pupils learn best and I tailor my sessions to suit the individual’s learning style.
