Rachel

I am an English native speaker who has been living and working in Edinburgh since 2008. I am passionate about teaching and supporting students to achieve and to enjoy using their English with confidence.

I teach all levels of English as a Foreign Language in a 1-to-1 setting. I am known for my friendly, conversational, yet intensive approach which has the power to motivate students and help them progress quickly.

As well as teaching English, I am also a professional musician and have been teaching and performing on the violin for many years.

Tutoring Approach

I support students to learn and improve intensively, as part of an enjoyable, stimulating experience. An example lesson will include:
- Skills development in all 4 areas, i.e. speaking, listening, reading and writing.
- Relevant, interesting conversation for fluency practice, e.g. we will often discuss current issues in the news or topics of interest for the learner.
- Grammar which is relevant, memorable and immediately usable.
- Vocabulary and pronunciation which will be displayed, in real time, on the lesson chat and then given to the student in written and audio form following the lesson.

A full suite of homework tasks is given following each lesson - each task will be directly relevant to what the student learned that day and will include my tailor-made, highly effective video transcription worksheets.
