Private Maths and Chemistry Tuition in Leeds

Greetings, fellow students! I am thrilled to have the opportunity to inspire you with new knowledge and support your journey towards university. Together, let's transform learning into an enjoyable experience, rather than a stressful one.

My name is Puru, and I was a former researcher at the University of Oxford, currently working as a consultant at an engineering firm that specialises in water and energy companies in the UK. My main focus is on developing and optimizing mathematical models for various purposes. In fact, my PhD research involved developing a mathematical model to mitigate climate change, and you can find my publications by searching my name on Science Direct.

Ever since I was a child, I have been passionate about academics, particularly Mathematics. I have never scored below 95% in this subject, as I enjoy working through numbers. Nowadays, I love sharing my ideas on solving Mathematics and Chemistry problems with students, with the ultimate goal of making learning fun and helping you excel in your upcoming exams. My classes are interactive and engaging, as I believe that learning should be a two-way street.

If you're interested in giving it a shot, please feel free to message me. The first class is on me, as I want to ensure that you're comfortable learning with me. Thank you for considering me as your tutor.

Tutoring Experience

In 2014, I began working as a part-time tutor during the summer holidays. After finishing my undergraduate degree, I started working as a full-time tutor in 2019. Since then, I have been mentoring students, especially those facing significant examinations such as GCSE, A-Levels, and IB. I am well-trained in preparing students with the right set of knowledge before their exams. During classes, I highlight key questions that often appear in examinations. One of my students, who recently completed her IB in May 2023, had secured a place at the University of Southern California. I have been mentoring her in IB Chemistry since 2020.

On a personal level, I achieved an A* and an A in A-level Mathematics and Chemistry, respectively, in 2014. In the graduating 2018 cohort from the University of Manchester, I was ranked 8th among 112 students.

Tutoring Approach

I usually begin my interaction with students by asking them whether they are learning for the exams or knowledge gain. Surprisingly, most students struggle to answer this question as they have been trained to memorize concepts and facts. While this can help them pass a 2-hour exam, the knowledge is often lost within 48 hours. This means that they end up revising the same content for the next exam, which is not an effective way of learning.

My approach to teaching is to ensure that students understand the concept being taught. I take the time to explain key concepts and ensure that students have a complete understanding before attempting any question. My goal is not for students to answer 10/10 questions but to learn one question and be able to answer the next 100 questions.

For example, did you know that the famous Pythagorean Theorem can be derived from the cosine rule? These concepts are essentially the same thing but are taught in different chapters. This can make it difficult for students to relate to both and often leads to confusion.

I am passionate about Science and Mathematics, and I hope to share this passion with the upcoming generation. I also expose my students to past year examination papers to help them understand the relevance between the knowledge and practical applications. During the pandemic, I have trained myself to deliver effective online classes. Therefore, all my classes will be conducted online to ensure the least commute time for parents and students."
