Online Maths and English Tutoring

** I currently have one after school slot - 5.55 - 6.55 on a Monday. **
I'm a friendly, approachable online private tutor. I have a Post Graduate Certificate in Education and hold qualified teacher status. I enjoy tutoring online as I get to meet a range of really interesting students. I particularly enjoy seeing them progress and achieve. I'm smiley, happy and enthusiastic when I teach.

I live near the coast and love walking on the beach and the South Downs. I enjoy my little garden where I grow fruit and veg. I occasionally have my friend's dog, Snoop, come and visit for a holiday and we have fantastic walks, rain or shine! My grown-up son and I spend our Sundays hiking the downs. I love to travel when I can and am planning on buying my own camper van.

Tutoring Experience

I have been teaching since 2001. I worked in a middle school for fifteen years, teaching years 5, 6 and 7. I was also head of the computing department for twelve of those years. I became a supply teacher for two years (after a few months traveling), teaching the full range, from reception to year 6. From there, I went on to work in an international English School in Cairo for four years, teaching the English National Curriculum to years 5 and 6, returning to the UK two years ago. Since then, I have been privately tutoring online and have taught students from year 3 to year 8.

Tutoring Approach

I love to build a good relationship with my students in order to make them feel comfortable and enjoy my lessons. I make my lessons as fun and interactive as possible. I will initially assess your child to see what their strengths and weaknesses are. I will congratulate and big up the strengths and then work on the weaknesses, giving praise for each milestone that is passed, however small. I use a small-steps approach, slowly building up understanding and skills before moving up to the next concept. I exercise patience and understanding when a child struggles and find new or simplified ways of explaining.

One-to-one sessions mean that your child can get so much more out of their education. As a teacher, I get to know your child's way of working very closely and can adapt to their needs and styles, as well as being very clear on what their next steps should be.

I teach KS2 and 3 English and KS2 and 3 maths as well as 11+ prep. I also teach computing at KS2.
