Home Tuition for Psychology in Stamford

Please note, I am currently only available between 2pm and 4pm Tuesday and Thursday or from 2pm to 6pm on Wednesdays.

I have a first class degree in Psychology from Leeds University and after some years as a research Psychologist spent 26 years teaching A level and GCSE Psychology. I also taught undergraduate and year zero Psychology for a number of years. My results are excellent and 2 of my A level students scored the best result in the Country.

Tutoring Experience

There are three things you need to consider when choosing a tutor:

1) How much experience do they have in the subject?

I taught Psychology for 26 years and was promoted to Head of Subject after two years. Mostly that was A level, but I have also taught GCSE, undergraduate and year zero. During that time, I have taught most specifications, including AQA and OCR.

2) Are they a specialist or imagine they can tutor in anything?

My degree is in Psychology, I have only ever taught Psychology and allied subjects. I would not trust a tutor who says they can teach A level or above without suitable degree level qualifications and experience.

3) Have they any awarding body experience, so that they really understand how the exams work?

I worked for several awarding bodies for 12 years when I marked exams, wrote exam questions and contributed to specification design.

All of this means I have the skills, experience and knowledge to adapt to whatever Psychology specification you are working towards, and I will be able to help you improve your exam skills and understanding of Psychology to ensure you achieve the best grade you can.

Tutoring Approach

My wife (an English tutor) and I have decided to only offer in person tuition, as that creates a more engaging environment than the passivity of online learning. It also enables a more focused, supportive and responsive relationship than remote learning can ever do.

I will use all my experience and knowledge of teaching and applied Psychology to get the best out of you I can. My focus is on skills development to enable students to make the best use of what they know to get the maximum marks in any assessment. I am happy to either supply new resources or work to help you understand the resources you have been given. The materials I can provide includes podcasts, videos, workbooks and revision packs.

In addition, my time as a research psychologist means I have particular expertise in research methods and statistics, and I specialise in a no fear approach to teaching research methods and statistics.
