I am a highly experienced teacher of IB HL and SL Mathematics. I enjoy sharing my love of the beauty and applicability of Mathematics with my students. I also enjoy discussing Mathematics with others especially when comparing different strategies for solving mathematical problems. I have a degree in Mathematics and a PGCE in Mathematics and Computing from the London Institute of Education. I also enjoy outdoor activities such as cycling and hiking, and practical activities where I get to solve other types of real life problems.

Tutoring Experience

I have been a teacher of secondary Mathematics for over 30 years. I have taught IB HL, SL and Further Mathematics, A-Level up to Further Mathematics and IGCSE Mathematics in international, private and government schools in the UK, Singapore and Dubai including many years as a Head of Department. I have lots of experience tutoring IB MAA HL and SL students, and more recent experience of tutoring IB MAI SL students.

Tutoring Approach

I have tutored IB Higher and Standard Level Mathematics, and A-Level students face-to-face for many years, and have also developed the skill of tutoring students online using a range of different technological tools including visualizers and interactive apps. I would describe both my teaching and tutoring style as patient, attentive and highly responsive to the needs of my students or tutees. I use my years of mathematical teaching experience to try to address the needs of those who seek my help. I encourage my students to practice key skills using appropriate problems. I also try to ensure that they feel happy to seek clarification from me whenever necessary to reinforce their mathematical understanding. Consequently, with my support, my students and tutees have always made good progress in being able to cope with any challenges they have faced in Mathematics as well as improved success in any internal or examinations they have gone on to take.
