Online Biology and Psychology Teacher

I have been involved in education, sport, and the health and fitness industry for over 15 years. During this time I have had several roles including lecturer, rugby union coach, and gym instructor/manager. In addition, I have provided sport science and strength and conditioning support for judo, boxing, rugby union, and netball athletes, and written and contributed to several academic publications and research projects.

My own educational background is in the sport and exercise sciences where I covered subjects such physiology, biomechanics, psychology, sport coaching, strength and conditioning, and research methods. My PhD investigated the visual search strategies of judo coaches, and I am currently involved in research projects investigating visual search strategies in settings other than sport.

Tutoring Experience

I have over 10 years experience of teaching on sport, health, fitness, and biosciences programmes in further and higher education institutes. I have taught anatomy and physiology, biomechanics, sport coaching, strength and conditioning, academic skills, research methods, and psychology. I have also had responsibility for reviewing and developing higher education modules and programmes, and I am currently an AS/A-level Physical Education examiner for Cambridge Assessment International Education.

During my time teaching I have gained experience of different approaches including online delivery, individual tuition, seminars, practical sessions, and lectures. I have worked with a wide range of learners in further and higher education, and aimed to create environments where these learners could develop the skills to drive their own learning. I also have experience of working with learners in primary and secondary schools having delivered rugby union coaching sessions as part of physical education lessons and extracurricular activities.

Tutoring Approach

I aim to create a learning environment where learners not only develop their subject specific knowledge and understanding, but also develop their academic skills, their ability to learn independently, and their ability to apply information to a variety of situations. Engaging in a wide range of activities is encouraged in order to develop students who can draw upon and utilise a broad range of information to help inform their learning.
