Having spent 30 years as a leader in policing, where I spent a substantial amount of time teaching adults (firearms, public order etc) I have followed my passion and undertaken a career transition into teaching secondary school English. I live in the Brentwood area, have four grown up daughters (two of whom are yr 6 primary school teachers) and my hobbies include triathlon, and more recently, padel.
Extensive teaching of adults in the public sector. I am a
recently qualified teacher in secondary English, having switched careers and been recruited and trained by the competitive and selective teaching provider - Teach First (who only recruit top performing graduates). Also, I have experience volunteering for a couple of years in an outer London primary school. I personally tutored my own daughter towards passing the 11+ and attending CCHS.
Very flexible approach, based on the needs of the particular child and parents/carers. Building a relationship is key, along with a passion for the subject. I am currently based in a setting where apathy to learning is a major issue and have had considerable success employing strategies to inspire and motivate kids to pick up a book or pen and to read or write for pleasure, with huge progress in their learning achieved. I bring ideas into teaching obtained from outside the profession. Can I get your child to put down their electrical devices and pick up a book? Often by sharing my past life experiences, this has led to increased motivation from pupils towards their learning.
