Maths and English Tutoring in Ladbroke Grove

Hello There! My name is Patrick, I am 30 years old and live in West London. I am currently working towards my masters in Child Psychoanalysis at Birkbeck University. I have a very friendly and cheerful personality, and often work well with students who may be quite shy or anxious. Child mental health is a topic that I have become interested in exploring more as I have gotten older. I currently work for charities, and have counselling positions for young people who experience extreme forms of anxiety and depression. I had always loved the concept of development, and now find myself linking more pieces together to understand not just the educational development of a young person, but their emotional development too.

I have a lot of hobbies and interests. I am a keen sports fan and music lover. I also try to keep up to date with what games are popular with young people, and what sort of things might be 'trending'. But apart from that, I try to ensure I work hard to succeed with my dreams in developmental theory.

Tutoring Experience

I have been tutoring in London for the past 9 years, and also began my teaching career at the age of 16 working for a charity. I have mainly worked on Entrance Exams, be it 7+, 11+ or 13+. I have years of experience in all forms of entrance tests, with access to platforms like Atom Learning, Century Maths, Dr Frost Maths, and many other resources which can help with the learning process. I am proficient in written exams too, and can help develop forms of writing, be it creative, transactional or analytic. I can also support parents in school choices, and offer any advice which may be necessary in the lead up to entrance exams.

I have helped students get into a number of schools throughout the UK: Kings College Wimbledon, Latymer, Eton, Harrow, St Paul's, City of London, Hampton, Godolphin and Latymer, Francis Holland, Notting Hill and Ealing, Radley, Haberdashers, Harrodian and many others.

I also offer support in English and History GCSE. I have been supporting students in a wide range of exam boards and exam formats. I have access too all the literary texts which are studied, and the poetry too. I can offer support in both Literature and Language exams for English, and also support with any coursework. Whether it is to push your grades up to a 7, or achieve an impressive 9, the only way to get there is through consistent revision up to the exam!

I am also have an Enhanced DBS that I am happy to provide if needed.

Tutoring Approach

The changes and challenges that young people face are extremely demanding as they get older. They are exposed to new environments and have the pressures of exams, all whilst maintaining busy schedules outside of school. I started my work as a tutor as I found that the ability to work 1-1 with a young person was far more of an enriching experience compared with the busy classroom! School is a difficult place for some children, but others can thrive there. It is easy to fall into stereotypes at school, like being the noisy kid or the quiet kid. This is why 1-1 is so effective. You are able to offer a young person their space to be more comfortable, allowing them to be more receptive to the relationship they build with their tutor.

I believe that consistency is key to this work. Sessions should be maintained weekly and homework that is set should be completed. It is very hard to progress if objectives are not met and a routine is not established. I do discuss these sorts of issues with my students, and try to find ways to amend their approach to home based work, if they were to arise. However, I provide constant updates to parents and ideas on how they might be able to support with the extra work that will be received. But with all of the work that children have to get through these days, they do require support!
