I used to be a doctor but retrained as a teacher and I teach Biology AS and A2 in a further education college Tuesdays to Thursdays. I am available for tutoring during the days on Mondays and Fridays, and Wednesday evenings. I am patient and students feel confident to ask me questions or have a go at answering questions and not feel silly.

Tutoring Experience

I have taught at the same college since 2007, on A Level Biology, and BTEC Applied Science on biology and health units. For the last few years I have also done private tuition of A Level Biology, and key stage 3 and GCSE science, and helped adults with their Access to Higher Education or GCSE equivalency preparation. Some of this has been face to face and some has been online via different video meetings. I also mark for an exam board, so have a detailed understanding of how to get maximum marks.

Tutoring Approach

I am very adaptable to your needs. I have found that most students want me to explain certain topics again that they have covered in class and want to ask questions about what they haven't understood. I can do this with the aid of diagrams, examples, video clips and past questions. Also, they often find it useful to work through past questions where I give them feedback on which parts of their answers were good, how they can be improved, and advice on how to effectively approach exam questions. Then, if weaker areas are identified from this we can focus on those. However, I can be guided by you as to what you would find most useful. Students and their parents have often commented that I explain things much better than their teacher, but also that they benefit from the time and individual attention.
