Online English Lessons

I am a full time English teacher at Tiffin School, specialising in Literature and Language at KS3, KS4 and A-Level. I trained at UCL's Institute of Education with an academic focus on bridging the gap between the quality of verbal and written contributions in English.

Units taught at GCSE level: Macbeth; An Inspector Calls; The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde; Blood Brothers; Lord of the Flies; Animal Farm; A Christmas Carol; Frankenstein; Great Expectations; Power and Conflict Poetry Anthology; Love and Relationships Poetry Anthology & English Language Papers 1 & 2.

I am qualified to teach English as a foreign language meaning that I am able to quickly identify and correct the fundamental basics of grammar and the English language in written and verbal modes of communication. Additionally, I have a Level 3 Diploma working with children that have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.

Prior to beginning my teaching career, I worked in PR and Communications where I worked predominantly as a copywriter and content editor. Additionally, I have spent a year as an English and Boarding Assistant at a private school in East Sussex and specialised in providing one-to-one tutoring for students that required extra English support.

Tutoring Experience

2021 - Current - Tiffin School, Kingston. English Teacher & Assistant Head of Year 13.
2020/21 - PGCE Secondary English placements: Highgate Wood School, Highgate and La Retraite Roman Catholic Girls' School, Clapham
2017/2018 - Mayfield School, East Sussex

Tutoring Approach

I take a student-centred approach to my teaching which involves leading with and building on what my students already know about the topics at hand. It's important for me to know from the offset the aspects of English they enjoy, struggle with and even (dare I say it) despise so that we can work together to achieve the desired result.

I enjoy working with my students to find clear and simple strategies to detangle the more complex aspects of English Literature and Language. At GCSE level, this often centres around essay skills and techniques to ensure that they're able to translate what they've learnt into the grade that they both want and are capable of achieving.
