An incredibly organised, hardworking and energetic English Literature and Language teacher with two years of experience at an ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted-rated grammar school, and four years of teaching adults and in-classroom TEFL in China, Japan, Spain and Thailand. I am a bibliophile and devotee of everything English – I like igniting the same passion and confidence in those who I teach.
Most recently I was KS3 Cordinator at an all-boys grammar school and have worked with KS4 and KS5 students. I achieved level 5 or above in English GCSE for 87% of students in 2018 and 84% in 2019, and a large number of my students received level 8s and 9s in both Language and Literature exams. I also have experience with one-to-one tutoring and secured a level 7 in Language and level 8 in Literature for my student who was predicted a level 4 in both exams.
Foremost, I believe in creating a culture of excellence and tell students that through their hard work, and under my tutelage, they can achieve mastery in the subject. I like to show students what excellence looks like by providing example responses to questions and modelling writing to help them work through the process to achieve similar success. I develop confidence and passion for the subject by telling my students that intelligence is not fixed: together we can work toward excellent results but also, perhaps more importantly, a zest and love for English. I like to push my students to achieve more by setting high standards; I develop their subject awareness and capabilities through meaningful questioning techniques and knowledge enhancement based on recent and progressive theories of pedagogy.
