I am a music graduate. I have played drums for over 10 years. I gig, teach and record around London semi professionally. I play mostly jazz, latin, funk, rock and orchestral music. I teach sight reading and many different techniques such as traditional grip, moeller technique and double pedal.

Tutoring Experience

I have taught privately for over 3 years. I teach Trinity and Rockschool grades, sight reading, hand and foot technique. I always link the technique studied to music. I have experience teaching young children, keeping them interested with games and using simpler language to explain, as well as clear goals meaning they always know what to practice. I use online software such as Noteflight to create scores of my students favourite songs and share them with them, these scores can be played back making it easy to remember how rhythms sound.

Tutoring Approach

I like to focus on what the student wants. For example older students often don't want the hassle of learning lots of technique and just want to start playing, so we play songs and try and memorise rather than read. With younger students I will listen to the student and their parents who are often inclined to do grades. I use online software such as Noteflight which allows me to write drum scores for songs and play them back to students. I teach from an electric kit with an amp. I take pleasure in watching my students improve and finding out what my students really enjoy playing!
