Nikhita

Hi, I’m Nikhita. I’m passionate about philosophical discussions of any kind and would love to inspire and share my knowledge with others. I have always had a keen interest in Philosophy, stemming from my GCSE (A*) and A Level (A) in Religious Studies. I decided to follow this passion and studied Philosophy at University of York. I realised my interest lied heavily in ethics, particularly Ethics in AI. Resulting in my dissertation discussing the topic of a biased AI algorithm currently in use in the US Criminal Justice System. Following from this, I was offered a competitive internship to write a short paper on trust between a patient and a social assistive robot.

Tutoring Experience

As part of my internship, I had to condense a lengthy philosophy paper into an presentation to deliver to a team of leading computer scientists. As they had no prior knowledge of my project, I needed to ensure that the brief summary I included gave a high level overview without losing the bare bones of the philosophical argument. I can explain complex ideas and theories into a simple, digestible way to ensure it is understood and retained by the listener.

Tutoring Approach

I would adopt an approach to understand the content required for an exam by looking at the syllabus. If required, I would make some flashcards or worksheets that contains all the relevant knowledge pertaining to the topic to break down the lengthy pages of text that can be overwhelming. Once they are comfortable enough with the topic, I will slowly introduce exam style questions to stimulate them to come up with original responses to the question. Then we will work on consolidating these responses in a relevant exam-based format, ensuring we are hitting point's from each section such as knowledge, conciseness etc. Finally, we can work on a writing style that suits them to ensure they have a strong foundation once they sit the exam.
