Home Tuition for Maths and Physics in Edinburgh

Nicola. Research Assistant at Newcastle University. My research deals with electric motor design and control for aerospace applications. I work at the Electric Power Group in Newcastle University, School of Engineering.
I graduated from University of Padua in 2012 in Energy Engineering. From the same University I gained a master in Electrical Engineering in 2015 with two visiting semester at Boston University (US) in 2014 and Aalto University (Helsinki-Finland) in 2015. I completed my PhD in Electrical Engineering at Newcastle University in 2021.

Tutoring Experience

I have been tutoring students my whole academic life, giving private tutoring, both during my bachelor and master studies. I have taught course labs in finite element analysis and electronics during my PhD studies to Master's level students.
I have tutored university students at:
- University of Padua (Italy)
- Newcastle University (UK)

I have tutored high school students mainly in math and physics.

For University students I have provided tutoring in:
- calculus and linear algebra
- physics
- electric power
- advanced math
- MATLAB
- electromagnetic fields and waves
- C programming
- control theory
- electrical machines and drives
- finite elements softwares (like Infolytica Magnet)

Tutoring Approach

  • Problem solving skills development. I am not in favour of trial and error approaches. Central aim is to understand the problem given and investigate different ways to solve it, using logic. Hands on problem solving is a foundation to develop skills.
  • Repetita juvant: my approach, especially in math, physics and engineering is to repeat problems and go over the theory over and over again, in order to build a solid foundation. Repetita juvant is a latin sentence meaning: "repeat is useful as the audience cements the concepts by repetition and clarification". Practically this involves doing many exercises of different kinds and many of the same kind more than once.
