RIGHT WORDS, RIGHT PLACES: THE ART OF WRITING

I have 30+ years as a trained secondary classroom teacher, a home educator, a private tutor, a professional creative writer, and a published poet.

I hold a Masters degree from Yale University and a MLitt in Creative Writing from the University of Stirling (with distinction). I read English and History of Art at Indiana University.

Some people think I am crazy, but I like to work with teenagers! I especially enjoy watching them grow in CONFIDENCE, build COMPETENCY, and write a CLEAR and CONCISE piece of WRITING. It makes me day.

Tutoring Experience

Recently, I work with students from the ages of 11 to 18 on the following skills:

• language and textual analysis (including set texts)
• grammar
• P.E.E. paragraphs
• essay writing
• reading for understanding, analysis and evaluation (RUAE)
• exam preparation (NAT5/Higher, IGCSE/A Level)
• portfolio writing
• the personal statement

Each lesson is tailored to meet the needs of the student.
