After completing an apprenticeship at Rover Group in Swindon as an electro-mechanical toolmaker, I studied for a BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering degree at London South Bank University.
I joined Motorola in Swindon as a post-graduate engineer designing mechanical and optical components using 3D CAD. I then joined Ford Motor Company for many years as a Design and Systems engineer at their Research and Development facility in Essex.
I also worked at Visteon Corporation who are a Tier 1 supplier to the automotive industry, and Ricardo PLC, based near Brighton, who are an engine design consultancy to all of the large automotive companies.
I then worked in the further education college industry as a lecturer, and worked my way up to Head of Department for Engineering & Construction at Northbrook College in Sussex.
I studied for an MSc in Automotive Engineering as a joint degree at the University of Brighton and Sussex.
In my capacity as a college and University ISC lecturer, I have taught many different groups, from GCSE and Level 1 to Masters Students at Level 7.
Central to this is my ability to engage students as they learn concepts and ideas, and to be able to show application of these concepts in real-world situations.
And don’t worry, if you don’t understand something, we can look at it until you get that lightbulb moment.
Exam tips are included too.
I aspire to challenge the minds of students from both ends of the academic spectrum, and building good relationships with my students is important.
The best measure of success is when my students are genuinely excited about the subject matter and eager to offer their own ideas.
