I am currently Assistant Principal (and formerly Director of Maths) at TES Secondary School of the Year Kensington Aldridge Academy, in charge of data and timetabling. I used to run a department of 17 maths teachers there. I am a fun, friendly and warm individual with a keen passion for using education to maximise children's potential.

Tutoring Experience

I have led our department to excellent A Level results and GCSE results, setting the path for even better results this year. The school was rated outstanding in all areas by OFSTED in December 2017. One comment from the report stated: 'As a result of high-quality teaching and a demanding subject curriculum, pupils develop strong subject-specific skills that help them to become confident mathematicians'.

In school I have taught all ages from 11 to 19 for the last 8 years including Key Stage 3, GCSE Maths, GCSE Statistics, A Level Maths and A Level Further Maths. Most of my experience has been with EDEXCEL but I am able to transfer these skills to other exam boards and I have tutored to the AQA board before as well.

I have tutored a number of students in my spare time with all of my previous students achieving their target grades.

Tutoring Approach

I have an excellent understanding of the requirements at GCSE and A Level mathematics courses, and use these to perform diagnostic testing in the first session so that I can identify the student's areas of progress and weakness before targeting those areas specifically in subsequent sessions.

Together we will create a Personalised Learning Checklist and use the time before examination to ensure that no stone is left unturned for the student.

I expect students to do work between sessions to prepare themselves for the next area of study as I truly believe that working independently is the key to excellent exam performance and a deeper understanding of the course.

My ethos is not just to teach to the test, but to garner a deep understanding of the concepts that students are struggling with to set them up longer term for having a deeper mathematical understanding of the world.
