Online History Tutor

I am a postgraduate Law student with an academic background in History. I was taught in the GCSE/A Level system and am very familiar with requirements for achieving highly it. I have enjoyed studying history from a young age and believe it is essential to teach it in such a way that it remains exciting while also addressing the more fiddly aspect of essay writing.

Tutoring Experience

During my degree studies, I frequently presented information to fellow students and lecturers, and enjoy the process of explaining and clarifying new topics. I have experience working with children in an English language camp in Germany and have developed a patient, methodical style, while also keeping things from becoming too formal.

Tutoring Approach

I am looking for students who wish to hone the craft of writing convincing essays while not letting this become too laborious a task and thus ruin their enjoyment of the subject. I believe in ensuring that students understand how research and essay writing skills will be transferable to further study or employment.

A typical hour-long lesson might include the following:

  • 10 minute discussion of the topics, ensuring that all the facts and concepts are clear and answering any questions.
  • 15 minutes to go through a marked written assignment, discussing what could be improved, with strong reference the mark schemes
  • 15 minutes to introduce a new topic
  • 20 minutes to create new essay plans around the discussed topics, assigning new questions to examine during the following weeks lesson.

This structure may be flexible depending on an individuals needs. However, in most cases the time is best spent on structuring and styling essays correctly, while some of the learning and researching will be left to tutees to do in their own reading time.
