Neil

I am a friendly and approachable person and have worked as a teaching assistant for Camborne Science and International Academy and Hayle Community School assisting secondary school students of varying abilities across all subjects. I have qualifications in preparing to teach adults (PTLLS) and teaching English as a foreign language to adults (CELTA) (at Nottingham Trent University). I have worked as a Learning Support Assistant in Adult Education helping learners doing ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languaages), GCSE maths or Level 1 or Level 2 Functional Skills maths. I play the piano, garden and go for walks with my family in my spare time.

Tutoring Experience

I have been a tutor in Maths, English and English as a Foreign Language with students through First Tutors for more than six years now and have helped several students to gain A - C grades in their GCSEs in Maths and English. I have also taught English as a Foreign Language to teenage and adult students of many nationalities and various levels at summer schools with Stafford House Study Holidays, SUL Language School and Bell English. I now work as a Learning Support Assistant for Cornwall Adult Education Service in ESOL and Maths classes. As a Teaching Assistant, I have taught many subjects including maths and IT to 11 - 16 year old students in class and on a one to one basis and have gained great satisfaction from working with young people and adults, encouraging them to achieve their full potential.

Tutoring Approach

The needs of the tutee will be the focus of our lessons. I would aim to have relaxed but hopefully high achieving sessions. I would aim to set homework and give feedback in the lessons. I would be happy to concentrate on areas of weakness and misunderstanding as requested by the tutee. All the time, I would aim to develop a tutee's confidence.
