Hi, I am a fully qualified maths teacher in my 5th year of working in secondary schools across Norfolk. I have a 1st class mathematics degree and a postgraduate degree in mathematics education. I have over a decade of experience tutoring students to help them develop their confidence in the subject and achieve the grades they deserve.
I was born in Norway and I've lived in Norwich since I was young. I enjoy playing board games and hiking.
Most of my experience consists of supporting GCSE and A level students in preparation for examinations. I have also worked with some adults and younger children. I have experience working with UEA INTO foundation students. I am able to run individual and group tutoring sessions as required.
I have plenty of experience supporting students with the following exam boards: Edexcel, AQA, OCR, and WJEC. I am able to support with both Foundation & Higher GCSE, AS & A2, as well as Further Maths GCSE. I have some experience teaching AS Further Maths too.
Initially most of my experience was face to face tutoring, but since the pandemic many students have opted for online sessions or blended learning (e.g. online sessions during the term with occasional in person sessions). My online lessons usually involve using collaborative whiteboards where I can model examples, draw diagrams if needed, students can attempt problems and get instant feedback.
I have quite a flexible approach to tutoring and like to start from what students can do and build on their knowledge and skills. When teaching a new topic I make sure to explain concepts clearly and use the "I do, we do, you do" approach to develop confidence. I believe it is important for students to experience using a skill in a variety of contexts to deepen and strengthen their understanding. I will often review work learnt in previous sessions to test retrieval and to strengthen students' memory. I am happy to prepare materials or willing to look at anything students want to bring to sessions. Exam practice and technique can play a big part of tutoring sessions especially for those with upcoming exams.
Being in a school environment helps inform my tutoring approach as I can apply what I learn in the classroom to my tutoring. I'm able to draw on my own experiences as a student and use that to inform my teaching.
