Hello, I am Natalie, I have 11 years experience teaching Business and Economics in secondary schools and examining for Edexcel A Level. During this time I have been Head of Department and led on whole school Teaching and Learning responsibilities. I am passionate about my subject, helping students to learn and particularly enjoy working with students to build their confidence in Economics and Business.

Tutoring Experience

As Head of a successful Department I have consistently secured results at GCSE and A Level well above the national averages, in particular an impressive number of A-A*.
I have tutored Business and Economics A Level across all of the leading specifications, Edexcel, AQA, OCR. The students I have tutored have all secured between 1 to 3 grades higher than their initial starting points.
Experience as an examiner has meant I have comprehensive understanding of the marking criteria at GCSE and A Level and therefore I am able to support students with exam technique, essay writing and structure.
In the most recent Ofsted inspection at my school my department was part of the deep dive process. Ofsted highly commended the quality of teaching and resources within my department.

Tutoring Approach

Initially it’s important to gauge what a student needs support with the most, so the first session will involve identifying strengths and areas that require improvement. I find that exam technique is a particular element that holds students back at A Level, it is often underestimated and not enough teaching time is given to exam preparation, support with this can see rapid grade gains very quickly. Once students know how to apply their knowledge, understand the exam question and structure their essays, their performance in exams can improve significantly.
Furthermore unpicking tricky elements of the content and re-teaching through scenarios or real world examples supports depth of understanding so students feel more secure In their subject knowledge.
I use A-A* exemplars, live marking and feedback and walking talking mocks explaining my thinking as I model the response to an exam question live.
I aim to keep sessions engaging and interactive using tools such as online mini whiteboards to aid the drawing and sharing of diagrams.
