Online Tuition for Maths and Chemistry

Hi there! I am an enthusiastic and motivated Chemistry student at Kings College London in my second year of study. I studied Chemistry, Biology and Maths A levels following I took a gap year and worked as a science technician and tutor then travelled for 6 months where I volunteered in Sri Lanka teaching English and interrailed Europe. I weightlift and I box- fitness is a huge passion of mine. My favourite areas of study is quantum mechanics and thermodynamics in physical chemistry!

Tutoring Experience

I tutored 5 membered groups of GCSE students for a year in Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Maths for a year and they all achieved highly. Having completed a TEFL qualification I have taught a class of 50 students aged 4-18 English in Ambalangoda, Sri Lanka with an organisation called plan my gap year. I have also completed online tutor training with a company called 'School-led tutoring training course'.

Tutoring Approach

I have tired many different teaching approaches since I have worked with children across a wide age range. I have found for GCSE/A-level students the most effective approach is delving into an exam question and working backwards to answer it- this may mean pulling out key words from the questioning and understanding what that means, analysing command words, explaining the concept in the question and I do this by encouraging the student to do as much as they can first in each individual section before filling in the gaps. I think it is also important to sometimes go back to basics and recap important ideas which make the deeper concepts easier to grasp. Often using maths, flow charts and diagrams can be useful as well to explain an idea.
